Camino de Santiago Portuguese Coastal Route, Day 2

<- Day 1

Walk: Arcade to Pontevedra

Distance: 12 km

Today, we set out from Arcade on the second leg of our 100-kilometer journey along the Camino de Santiago Portuguese Coastal Route. Our destination for the day was Pontevedra, and we were eager to see what this day would bring.

Since it was a short walking day, we started late. We walked 12 kilometers from Arcade to Pontevedra, taking in the sights and sounds of this beautiful region. Later I learned that our today’s journey took us over the historic Ponte Sampaio, which is known for being the site of one of Napoleon’s army’s greatest defeats in Galicia.

We were amazed by the beauty of the wine growing regions we passed today, it was serene to be walking along the vineyards.

As we continued our walk, we were treated to stunning views of the Bay of Vigo and the 13th-century Church of Santa Maria. The cobbled road leading to the church offered us a glimpse into the rich history of this region, and we felt privileged to be walking in the footsteps of countless pilgrims before us.

Once we arrived in Pontevedra, we first headed to have lunch. We found this Indian restaurant called the New Bombay Palace, the food and hospitality was amazing and we really enjoyed great food and wine selection.

After that, we took some time to explore this charming city, taking in its unique architecture and vibrant energy. We did some shopping and then chilled at our beautiful hotel, Parador de Pontevedra, which was a stunning villa converted into a hotel. It’s We were struck by the beauty of this place and felt grateful for the opportunity to experience it for ourselves.

Dinner today was gourmet three course meal paired with delicious local wines!

As we settle in for the night, we are reflecting on the sights and experiences of the day and looking forward to what tomorrow will bring. We are eager to continue our journey along the Camino de Santiago Portuguese Coastal Route and see what other wonders this region has in store for us.

Stay tuned for more updates from our journey!
