Fun day today, we woke up late, our appetite was back and no one was sick anymore! There was singing, dancing and tipping ritual after the breakfast where we would say final goodbyes to our porters and other support crew, we all had very emotional moments when we started getting words together to thank everyone. There were not enough words to describe how thankful we all were to all thirty six of them who supported us through this journey, none of us would have made it to Uhuru Peak without them!
Trail today to the gate was nicely paved and beautiful through the rain forest. We all were in great mood today, kept singing and dancing along the way. Four hours of fun hike later, we made it to the Mweka gate, where we finished formalities to get our certificates- our proof of achievement! We took final group photos and got in our car. We made a stop at the souvenir shop on the way to our lodge and picked up our well deserved `I made it to the Uhuru Peak’ shirts. We made it to the lodge later in the afternoon. Long shower and washing hair had never felt better before! Walter made spring rolls for us, we enjoyed those with chilled Kilimanjaro Beer. Some of us called for in-room massage service. We made phone calls to family and friends at home and posted our achievements on social media. Later at night, we went to the town for some delicious Indian food.
Life changing journey to the top of Uhuru Peak has created lasting memories for life!
