Edith Cavell Trail: Glacier Magic in Jasper
Our afternoon hike to the Edith Cavell trail in Jasper National Park took us to an entirely different kind of scenery, The views were stunning from start to finish, but the highlight? – Standing at the base of a glacier—it was absolutely surreal. It reminded me of our adventure in Argentine Patagonia!
Trail Details:
- Distance: ~5.5 miles (round trip)
- Elevation Gain: ~1,200 feet
- Difficulty: Moderate
The trail begins with a steady climb through shaded switchbacks, opening up to meadows filled with some wildflowers and breathtaking views of Angel Glacier. The glacier’s blue-white ice, clinging to the mountain, was captivating from every angle.

The best part was reaching the base of the glacier. The path got rockier, and the air turned cool, but standing so close to the ice—hearing the creaks and feeling the chill—was an awe-inspiring moment. It’s something you have to see to believe!
On the way back, the open meadows and mountain views made the descent just as enjoyable. This hike was the highlight of our Jasper trip and a must-do for anyone visiting the park.
