Evening Hike to Little Beehive and Lake Agnes: Sunset Views and Solitude

6/30/2024

After a nice stroll around the famous Lake Louise, we decided to keep the adventure going with an evening hike to Little Beehive via the Lake Agnes Trail. This hike gave us everything we wanted—forest trails, awesome lookouts, and incredible alpine lake views. Even though the Lake Agnes Tea House was closed, the journey up made it well worth the effort!

Distance: 5.6 miles (round trip to Little Beehive)
Elevation Gain: ~1,500 feet
Difficulty: Moderate

The trail starts right from Lake Louise and climbs steadily up through the trees, winding along switchbacks. The forest opens up here and there, giving us glimpses of Lake Louise’s bright turquoise waters below. The path was smooth and well-kept, lined with wildflowers, even in summer, that added pops of color to the scenery.

After about 2 miles, Arnav and Anuj decided to continue to Lake Agnes, while the rest of us headed up to the Little Beehive. They loved the lake, tucked right under some rocky peaks. They said the lake was so peaceful at that hour, reflecting the soft evening colors perfectly. Because the the Tea House was closed, it made the lake feel even more serene with only a few hikers around.

Meanwhile, we continued on to Little Beehive. The trail got a bit steeper, but the views kept us motivated! When we finally reached the top, we were rewarded with sweeping views over Lake Louise and the Bow Valley beyond. Arnav and Anuj soon caught up with us at the peak. The light was just right, casting shadows across the valley and mountains—a perfect way to end the day.

If you’re looking for a peaceful, scenic hike around Lake Louise, we’d totally recommend doing this one in the evening. Fewer people, amazing sunset views, and a real sense of tranquility—it doesn’t get much better than this!
