A Spring Expedition: Scaling Yosemite’s Nevada Falls via Mist Trail and John Muir Trail

In the crisp March air, along with fellow nature lovers, we set out to conquer the relentless Nevada Falls in Yosemite National Park. Our chosen path? The iconic Mist Trail, leading us upward to the cascading beauty of Vernal Falls and beyond, followed by the scenic descent via the legendary John Muir Trail. What awaited us was not just a physical challenge but a profound communion with nature’s grandeur.

The journey began on the mist trail, alongside the roaring Merced River. With gentle ascent, each step brought us closer to Vernal Falls, its powerful waters sending refreshing sprays to cool our exertion. After the footbridge, we continued on Mist Trail with steep scramble alongside cascading Vernal fall.

We paused at the top of Vernal Falls to witness the force of nature. As we climbed higher, the surrounding landscape transformed, revealing towering granite cliffs and lush greenery punctuated by patches of lingering snow.

Reaching the summit of Nevada Falls was a moment to remember, rewarded by a breathtaking backdrop of the iconic Half Dome. Despite the remnants of winter clinging to the upper reaches of the falls, their sheer force and beauty captivated our senses. The roar of the cascading water echoed through the valley, a testament to the raw power of nature.

Descending via the John Muir Trail offered a different perspective, with panoramic vistas unfolding around each bend. The trail meandered through ancient forests adorned with patches of wildflowers, offering bird’s eye view of Vernal Falls and the expansive Yosemite Valley below.

With a total mileage of approximately 9 miles and a challenging ~2200 ft elevation gain, the journey tested our physical limits. But it was the soul-stirring scenery that made this adventure truly memorable.

Until the next adventure beckons, we remain forever grateful for the privilege of experiencing such wonders in the heart of California’s Sierra Nevada.

We spent rest of the day exploring beautiful valley witnessing powerful Yosemite Falls, its reflection from the swinging bridge and took a hike to the Mirror Lake.
